In the Acknowledgments section of ‘Day of Defense’, I mention two family friends:  

“To my mentor and family friend, the late Dr. Jim Cowart, MD, for assisting me in the early edits of this book and providing scriptural insight. To another family friend and MD, Dr. Joe Cannon, the stake president from my home stake—thanks for the positive influence he has had on my family.”

Interestingly, the Church’s monthly publican, the ‘Ensign’ featured an article in 1987 entitled ‘Truth Was the Doctors’ Cure.’  More background is given to shed light on the influences of the church in Bay City, Tx, my hometown.
